Völuspá

Gealdýr’s version of Einar Selvik’s (Wardruna) Völuspá, which was written for the TV series Vikings. Völuspá is one of the most famous poems of the Poetic Edda. It tells about the creation of the world (Ginnungagap) and the ending of it (Ragnarök). Nowadays, most people usually see life as something linear – in the Old Norse way of thinking everything in life goes through cycles instead. Ragnarök is not the ending of life. It’s just the fact that something has to die for something else to live.

Lyrics

Hljóðs bið ek allar helgar kindir, meiri ok minni mögu Heimdallar;viltu, at ek, Valföðr! vel framteljaforn spjöll fíra, þau er fremst um man.
Sól tér sortna, sígr fold í mar, hverfa af himni heiðar stjörnur;geisar eimi ok aldrnari, leikr hár hiti við himin sjalfan.
Bræðr munu berjask ok at bönum verðask, munu systrungar sifjum spilla;Skelfr Yggdrasils askr standandi, ymr it aldna tré, en jötunn losnar.
