Cyning, the latest album by Gealdýr, is now available on all streaming platforms. The album’s title translates to “king” in Old English, reflecting its exploration of medieval folklore, particularly Arthurian legends. Gealdýr has previously released two singles from the album: “Excalibur” and “The Green Knight.” “Excalibur” delves into the mystique of the legendary sword, “The Green Knight” features a unique language designed to capture the voice of nature itself, inspired by the legend of the Green Knight from Arthurian tales.
In creating Cyning, Gealdýr collaborated with award-winning UK filmmaker Oliver Hollingdale for the music videos of Excalibur and The Green Knight. The album’s artwork features a handcrafted representation of Excalibur, forged by Scottish blacksmith Greg Marr of Glittering Edge Ltd.
Gealdýr is the musical project of Dutch singer-songwriter Jonathan Barendsma. Since the start of the project in 2019, Gealdýr has become a recognized name within the Nordic folk music scene, with releases such as Ymir (in collaboration with Danheim), Sól, and Sær. Gealdýr’s music has previously been featured in productions such as Netflix’s Vikings: Valhalla.
